Although I tend to like short, simple, yet profoundly beautiful pieces when I play solo, I am always intrigued by the works which are completely different - especially when they just land on my hands. This time, it was given by one of the graduate saxophone students at the University of TN, Knoxville. In his Master's recital in February, we will perform Distances Within Me (1979) by John Anthony Lennon.
Contemporary works bring me to the universe of more dimensions than I have ever knew. Excited to be working on this piece in the next few weeks.
